Day 13, Friday 12th September 2014

Anann - Coylton (Ayr)

Today was going to be our longest ride of the trip, the target was 75 miles, thats without getting lost. everyone was a little nervous, the longest distance we had practiced as a group was 65 miles, Andy had ridden 106 miles but not carrying full kit.

The morning starting well everyone up on time, nice day a little misty, Tent dropped, gear stowed,  lined up ready for the team photo at 9:10 all ready to go.

We rode off towards Dumfries the roads were pretty flat rising as we approached Dumfries, As we passed through Dumfries and west towards Galloway Forrest the landscape started to rise steeply

We came to a bridge over the Water of Ken where the shallow water has carved a deep narrow

channel in the granite rock, this provides a perfect place to bridge the river.

The river meanders on its way to  Kendoon Loch
after resting at the bridge listening to the water we pressed on to
Kendoon Loch we could see in the distance.
These are the fish breeding pens on the Kendoon Loch are quite a bit larger
than the photograph shows but the good news we had covered 50 miles.

Jo W riding along as the hills in the background start rise.
Beaky riding along with the hills in the background
unfortunately with another broken spoke in his rear wheel.

Then at around 70 miles our spirits were lifted as we stopped at the
East Ayrshire border for a photo and a drink

Spirits lifted we set off for the campsite with only around 5 miles left before we got to the campsite.

We arrived at the campsite 8 and a 1/2 hours after setting off

lynn and H had the tent up so  the first job of the evening was to
repair beaky's back wheel and replace the broken spoke.
