Meet the rides and support crew

Andy Toyne

Hi I'm 50 years old, I am married to Joanne (Toyne). It has been one of my ambitions to cycle from Lands End to John o’Groats for many years, but we have always had other commitments (or excuses), things like family holidays; we could never find the time or the money to make it happen. When I turned 49 I got a pretty nasty chest infection (my reward for stopping smoking). I started cycling again to get some exercise, I soon realised my chest was never going to recover fully and I was getting older, if I was going to  fulfil my dream to ride from Lands’ End to John o’Groats it was now or never.
I started reading about other people’s rides and routes taken, then what seemed like endless hours of planning my route, trying to find campsites, re-planning routes to get to campsites. Looking for tents and all the other bits and pieces you don’t think of.
Originally I just wanted to ride from Lands’ End to John o’Groats as a personal challenge, I shied away from the added pressure of sponsorship, but as others joined my mad mission we decided if we're going to ride over 1050 miles it would be wrong to miss the opportunity to raise some money to help others.

Joanne Toyne

My name is Joanne, I am 48 years old and married to Andy.

The original goal was to ride half the distance each day to support Andy as I suffer with fibromyalgia as the training has progressed I find I can ride at the pace and most days I can cover the distance with manageable discomfort. I will be attempting the whole ride, though for potential sponsors please be aware the full distance may not be completed every day.

Paul Willoughby

Hey there..!!!
I'm Paul(beaky) Willoughby. I'm 42 years old. I'm married to Jo Willoughby and have a lovely daughter Katie Louise who is 15 year of age, not for getting my 4 other family members Tess,Annie,Lucy, and Willow our beautiful pet spaniels. I started cycling last year to encourage my wife on as she has diabetes, I thought at the time, cycling wasn't for me, but you know I thoroughly enjoy it. Joining up with group 88 cycling is so much fun. We are a little group with fun loving people  ,who all help and encourage each member of the group through some of the gruelling rides.
Lands end to John o'Groats, your having a laugh..!!!
When this was mentioned, laugh I thought it was, until it was talked about after every riding session we had, and that was quite a few during a week. To cut things short I'm really looking forward to this challenge, and most of all I'm very privileged to ride with Andy, who has wanted to do this ride for  numerous  years, and not forgetting the rest of the team -:Jo T, Jo W and H.
Not forgetting Lynn, who's warm heart and hands are going to rub my aching muscles after a challenging days ride.
Jo Willoughby

My name is Jo Willoughby I am 42 years old and live in Hibaldstow.  I’m married to Paul Willoughby who is also joining the trip with me.  I have a daughter Katie Louise Willoughby aged 15.  I work as a secretary for community services.
I started biking to lose weight and help with my diabetes with Lyndsey, she asked if her brother in law Andy Toyne could come along I never thought I would do biking on this level.  When Andy asked Paul and me to do Lands End to John O'Groats I thought I would never do that until my father (John Kettlewell) said you will never do that so watch out dad, I will.
I would like to thank Paul, Andy, Jo, H, Lynn, Lisa and Donna for all the support they have given me.

The Support Team

Lynn and John Harris

Hi we are Lynn and H and we are supporting my brother Andy, Jo, Paul and Jo during their Lands end to John o'groats charity bike ride. Our role is to relocate all the camping equipment to the next site each day and hopefully incorporate some sight seeing into the three week holiday....lol, as time has progressed our role has increased to chief cook, bottle washer, blogger, number one gofers and tent erector,  while the four riders enjoy the views of the countryside.
We are looking forward to being part of the challenge and H is hoping to get in on some of the cycle rides.
